In August of 2003, HPD Officer Holly Donahue and K-9 Champ II, died of cancer.  Officer Densil M. Samuda and K-9 Zeus, and HPD Officer Dennis O'Connor and K-9 Duke represented the Hartford Police Department in the statewide K-9 Olympics, sponsored by the State Department of Corrections, the University of Connecticut Police Department, and the Connecticut State Police.
