Ross mourns death of K9 Jimy following emergency surgery<\/p>\n
Ross police say a member of its K9 unit died unexpectedly following emergency surgery on Wednesday. \u201cJimy was a great and valuable member of this department and will be sadly missed,\u201d police officials said in an announcement posted on social media. \u201cPlease keep Officer (Justin) Allenbaugh and his family in your thoughts and prayers.\u201d Officials did not disclose the reason the dog required surgery. Ross has two other dogs in its K9 unit \u2014 Cezar and Neeko. As of Thursday morning, more than 140 people left messages of condolence on social media for Jimy, a German Shepherd from Slovenia who joined the police department in 2017 when he was 13 months old. Jimy was teamed with Allenbaugh, a U.S. Army veteran, and hit the streets after completing a 10-week basic training program. Last year, Jimmy received a bullet and stab protective vest from a non-profit organization that works to provide safety gear for law enforcement dogs. The new vest was supplied by Vested Interest in K9s Inc., which obtained the body armor through a sponsorship from Pink Biscuit K9s of Santa Paula, Calif.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
