Police dog Pezz dies after 7 years of sterling service

After an \u2018action-packed\u2019 seven years of service, Queensland Police pay their respects to PD Pezz. Firearms and explosives detection dog PD Pezz passed away peacefully in the arms of his handler last Sunday, after more than seven years of dedicated service to the Queensland community. PD Pezz was born on July 2, 2010, at the QPS Dog Squad complex. In 2013, he attended the firearms and explosives detection course where he was inducted into the Queensland Police Service as a detection dog, connected to the Explosives Ordnance Response Team. He then met his handler and \u201clifelong friend\u201d Senior Constable Jess Dwyer. In a statement, QPS said PD Pezz\u2019s life was action packed.\u201cDuring his career, PD Pezz and Senior Constable Dwyer worked together to complete searches for dignitaries visiting Queensland, locate firearms during search warrants, and perform duties during the 2014 G20 and the Commonwealth Games in 2018,\u201d the statement read. \u201cPD Pezz flew in the rescue helicopter, rode in the QPS dingy and travelled all across Queensland. \u201cPD Pezz will always be remembered as a vibrant and energetic boy who loved to work and was loved dearly by his handler and her family. \u201cHe left an impression wherever he went, with people commenting even at 10-years-old that he had the energy and charisma of a puppy.\u201d PD Pezz became unwell with an \u201cunforeseen illness\u201d and with \u201cgreat sorrow\u201d, the decision was made on Sunday, August 16 to lay him to rest. \u201cPD Pezz passed away peacefully in the arms of Senior Constable Dwyer and her family after more than seven years of dedicated service to the Queensland community,\u201d QPS said.\u201cRest In Peace PD Pezz and thank you for your honorable service.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
