K9 Jaxx Struck and Killed By Vehicle<\/p>\n
Southern Pines Police K-9\u2019s serve alongside our law enforcement officers and are very much considered part of our law enforcement family. These loyal companions have dedicated their lives to ensure that their handlers, fellow officers, and citizens stay safe. On Saturday morning, July 18, 2020, Southern Pines Police K-9 \u201cJaxx\u201d was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 1 in Southern Pines and passed away from the injuries sustained. Jaxx was a six year old Labrador Retriever who came to the Southern Pines Police Department from Backa Palanks, Serbia where he was born on May 4, 2014. Jaxx was introduced and administered his \u201cOath of Office\u201d by then Mayor David McNeill on June 13, 2017. Jaxx was not only a police dog, but an ambassador to our community and a family member to his handler Officer Greg Powers and his entire family. In his decorated career with the Southern Pines Police Department, K-9 Jaxx was a regular visitor to our schools, scout troops and countless other community events. K-9 Jaxx had the unwavering ability to socialize with the general public and upon command engage in the role for which he was trained.Always believe that God has reserved a final resting place for our all our law enforcement officers to include our K-9\u2019s. Thank you Jaxx for your selfless service to others. We now have another guardian protecting us from heaven.
