Colonie Police mourning loss of retired K9 Vader<\/p>\n

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of retired Colonie Police Department K9 Vader following an illness. Vader served the Town of Colonie for 6 years. Together, the team of Handler Shaw and Vader assisted in 182 drug searches. They also participated in 90 tracks of suspects or missing persons. The team may be most known for the countless demonstrations they performed which led the way to building bonds within the community. Board of Directors, he helped to draft Connecticut Statute 53-247(e) \\\"Intentional Injury or Killing of Police K-9\\\" which was passed by the Senate in 1993 and also assisted in implementing the prestigious Daniel Wasson Memorial K-9 Award in 1992. In 1993 he helped coordinate the North American Police Work Dog Association Nationals in New London, Connecticut. He was appointed Training Director for the New London County Work Dog Association from 1985-1987.
