The South Carolina Highway Patrol is mourning the loss of one of their own, K9 Rao. K9 Rao was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-95 while his handler was assisting a motorist. K9 Rao had served with the South Carolina Highway Patrol for nine years. K9 Rao was named after Senior Trooper Michael Rao who was struck and fatally injured a vehicle in the line of duty on June 10th, 2002, exactly 18 years to the day before K9 Rao was killed. Upon learning of K-9 Rao\u2019s passing, Senior Trooper Michael Rao\u2019s mother, Lois Rao, said: \u201cMike finally got his dog.\u201d Rest easy Rao.
