Retired police service dog dies after eight years with VicPD<\/p>\n
Bondo, who worked with the unit from December 2010 until May 2018, was 9 years old. Bondo\u2019s handler, Sgt. Calvin Ewer, said the German Shepherd \u201cloved every aspect of being a working dog\u201d and shared a birthday with Ewer\u2019s daughter. \u201cHe made a real connection with my family which was very special for me.\u201d When Bondo retired in May, he was replaced by a new service dog named Havoc, but Ewer said if it was up to Bondo he would have preferred to keep at it. \u201cBondo worked for almost eight years and deserved to enjoy retirement,\u201d he said. In a tweet, VicPD said: \u201cOur thoughts are with Bondo\u2019s handler and family.\u201d VicPD police dog Bondo will be added to the wall of honor in the lobby of the Victoria police station after the retired member of the K9 unit died over the weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
