Bruce Markus<\/p>\n<p>K9 Layco began working for the Newport Police Department in Newport Kentucky October 2008, he joined the staff of the Campbell County Detention Center June 2011.\u00a0 Layco was the first ever K9 the Campbell County Jail had.\u00a0 While working for the detention center, Layco assisted with cell extractions, cell searches and drug searches.\u00a0 Layco maintained his association with the local police agencies and was often called out for searches.\u00a0 One of the last searches Layco conducted was on September 6, 2017 when he assisted with the search for a robbery suspect that fled on foot from a vehicle, Sgt. Markus was called to assist when the suspect could not be found.\u00a0 K9 Layco\u00a0found the suspect several blocks away from the vehicle,\u00a0hiding in a garbage can, when confronted by Layco, the suspect surrendered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Died &#8211; 11\/19\/17 Handler:\u00a0 Sgt.
