Hinds County narcotics K-9 “Rex” dies<\/p>\n
The Hinds County Sheriff\u2019s department has lost a beloved member of their crime fighting team. Officials said \u201cRex\u201d, a K-9 Narcotics Detection dog has passed away. Liberty Bank in Jackson teamed up with the Sheriff\u2019s Office in 2012 to provide funds to purchase K-9 Deputy \u201cLiberty\u201d who was later named \u201cRex.\u201d Lt. Darrell Thornton chose \u201cRex\u201d over several other detection K-9\u2019s. \u201cWe connected immediately\u201d said Thornton. Thornton went on to say, \u201ceach day as I would prepare to report for duty, Rex knew it was time to go to work. We had each-others back and his loyalty was unconditional. I\u2019ve lost my partner and best friend.\u201d \u201cPreliminary autopsy results indicate that he died of natural causes\u201d said Sheriff Victor Mason. \u201cWe are saddened about the loss of K-9 Deputy \u201cRex\u201d and he will be missed.\u201d
