Solon police salutes K9 Rex who passed away<\/p>\n

The Solon Police Department is remembering Police K9 Rex, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 14. Rex, a Belgian Malinois, was a K9 for Solon police from 2003-2008. The police department said he was feared by criminals, but loved by kids. Rex was an expert in drug identification and could find missing people and evidence. During his retirement, Rex was a helper dog, home security system and friend. He lived with his handler and partner retired officer Joe Veto and wife Monica.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Board of Directors, he helped to draft Connecticut Statute 53-247(e) \\\"Intentional Injury or Killing of Police K-9\\\" which was passed by the Senate in 1993 and also assisted in implementing the prestigious Daniel Wasson Memorial K-9 Award in 1992. In 1993 he helped coordinate the North American Police Work Dog Association Nationals in New London, Connecticut. He was appointed Training Director for the New London County Work Dog Association from 1985-1987.
