LVMPD explosive detector K9 passes away after serving 8 years<\/p>\n

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department announced that Arno, a 13-year-old K9, passed away.The Belgian Malinois served alongside veteran K-9 officer Jeff Corbett. LVMPD reported Arno was donated to the department in 2016 by the Wynn Hotel.Over the last eight years, Arno has conducted thousands of explosive sweeps at parades, hotels, festivals, and major events, including the very first F1 in Las Vegas.Officials share words of sentiment as they remember Arno.Arno was gentle and friendly, always ready for work. He loved loading up in the truck and driving all over town to serve the people of Las Vegas…. His loss will be felt by all of us here at LVMPD K9. During his career he has provided armed K-9 strike crowd control for security agencies in Connecticut and out of state security companies. In conjunction with other members of the Connecticut Police Work Dog Association Inc. Board of Directors, he helped to draft Connecticut Statute 53-247(e) \\\"Intentional Injury or Killing of Police K-9\\\" which was passed by the Senate in 1993 and also assisted in implementing the prestigious Daniel Wasson Memorial K-9 Award in 1992. In 1993 he helped coordinate the North American Police Work Dog Association Nationals in New London, Connecticut. He was appointed Training Director for the New London County Work Dog Association from 1985-1987.
