K-9 killed in action by armed subject during South Carolina warrant service<\/p>\n

A SLED K9 was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday after agents went to serve a warrant, says SLED.The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says K9 Coba, a Belgian Malinois mix was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday in Newberry County, when law enforcement went to serve a warrant and ran into an armed person at the scene. Investigators say during the encounter Coba was shot after the suspect fired shots at law enforcement. They returned shots and the suspect was shot and taken to a hospital for treatment.Coba joined SLED in 2021 and served alongside Special Agent Richard \u201cCole\u201d Powell.SLED and the Newberry County Sheriff\u2019s Office requested the Lexington County Sheriff\u2019s Department to independently investigate the officer involved shooting.While this is the first officer involved shooting of the year for SLED and the Newberry County Sheriff\u2019s Office, SLED says this is the 20th officer involved shooting in the Palmetto state this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
