Lubbock Police mourn loss of K9 dog who died days before retirement<\/p>\n
The Lubbock Police Department shared a video on social media on Monday of the heartbreaking loss of its K9 unit dog, Bobo, who passed away on February 22, just days before his retirement. Bobo\u2019s handler, Officer Nathan Zalman, shared some memories of his time with the four-legged member of LPD.Bobo the Belgian Malinois joined LPD in 2016 and was assigned to Corporal James Smith. Bobo was with CPL. Smith for about a year and a half before Officer Zalman handled him.The Belgian Malinois was trained in narcotic detection and patrol apprehension. Zalman said Bobo was responsible for \u201cmultiple apprehensions.\u201d\u201cHe was a little bit different than everybody else,\u201d Zalman said. When Bobo had done a good job working, his reward was a game of tug of war. Tug of war wasn\u2019t the only thing Bobo enjoyed. Officer Zalman said he loved Rosa\u2019s chips. Every once in a while when the two would go to Rosa\u2019s drive-through together, Zalman treated Bobo to a couple of chips.\u201cHe was sent to retire at the end of February,\u201d Zalman said. \u201cHis last shift was spent at the vet,\u201d Zalman said.He had gotten sick and lost his energy and the decision was made to put him down after the vet said there wasn\u2019t much they could do for Bobo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
