Retired Manitowoc K9 Show Talents One More Time Before Passing<\/p>\n
Retired Manitowoc PD K9 Major recently passed away from cancer complications. He served as a dual-purpose working dog for Manitowoc PD from 2015 through 2022. K9 Major deployed on numerous traffic stops, building searches, tracks, evidence searches, and SWAT and Metro Drug assists. He had countless drug and patrol finds throughout his career. K9 Major\u2019s friendly demeanor made him the perfect representative for the police department at demonstrations and community events. K9 Major was diagnosed with cancer in January 2020 and was initially given 4-6 months to live with treatments. However, with generous support from the community, K9 Major defied the odds and stayed on the job for almost 2 \u00bd years after his diagnosis. One veterinarian described his battle with cancer as, \u201ca human surviving with terminal cancer for 20 years\u201d. K9 Major was able to enjoy retirement with his family after his service. During the WLECHA conference in Manitowoc this past week, he was given the opportunity to be a police dog for one last day before he passed. He enjoyed the opportunity and showed he still had the passion and ability to do the work!RIP K9 Major and thank you for your loyal service to Manitowoc.
