Retired canine sheriff\u2019s deputy Jager dies<\/strong><\/p>\n

The La Porte County Sheriff\u2019s Office announced Tuesday that retired canine Deputy J\u00e4ger, a 10-year-old German shepherd, has died. His human partner was La Porte County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Andrew Morse. The sheriff\u2019s department announcement: \u201cIt is with great sadness that the LCSO announces the passing of retired K9 J\u00e4ger. From 2013-2021, J\u00e4ger served the citizens of La Porte County fearlessly and with utmost loyalty. Throughout his career, he was responsible for numerous drug seizures and apprehensions. J\u00e4ger participated in dozens of public demonstrations for various civic organizations and was a popular pup throughout La Porte County. \u201cDuring retirement, J\u00e4ger remained happy at home and was surrounded by many who loved him dearly, none more so greater than his handler, Deputy Andy Morse. \u201dWNLP checked back in its archives for just a few examples of crime-solving assistance provided by J\u00e4ger. Besides many drug-sniffing discoveries, there were these: \u2013 In 2015, J\u00e4ger found a woman who had gone missing from a fishing spot near Pottawattamie Park in Michigan City. \u201cJager was able to quickly track the female, who was located a short distance from Trail Creek (reportedly in thick brush),\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office reported at the time. \u2013 In 2020, J\u00e4ger provided what is called a \u201cpositive alert\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
