PD Rue passes away<\/p>\n
We are sad to report the passing of Police Dog (PD) Rue this week in Rockhampton. Six-and-a-half-year-old PD Rue was a valued member of the Capricornia District Dog Squad, based in Rockhampton, where she nobly served the Capricornia District since June 2016. Unfortunately, she recently became unwell with an untreatable infection. Rue\u2019s vet assisted her to pass away peacefully with her handler by her side on Wednesday, February 3. PD Rue was instrumental in many large-scale drug operations throughout Queensland, travelling as far as Camooweal, Townsville and the Gold Coast, and was regularly deployed in the Capricornia, Mackay and Longreach Police Districts. She was a regular visitor to local schools and even spent some time with School of the Air to entertain and educate children from the bush. Her handler, Senior Constable Cameron O\u2019Sullivan, said Rue was a loyal and dedicated partner. \u201cShe was very skilled at her job and could always find her target, even in challenging situations,\u201d he said. \u201cThe work done by PD Rue and other Police Dogs is instrumental in keeping the community safe.\u201d Senior Constable O\u2019Sullivan said PD Rue would be deeply missed by himself, his family and her furry best mate, PD Violet. \u201cThe bond we share with our Police Dogs is immeasurable \u2013 they are not just our pets, they are members of our families, and our partners. \u201cWe kept each other safe and we looked out for one another on the job. \u201cRue had become a loving and loved part of my family, and she will be greatly missed.\u201d PD Rue will be remembered fondly for her work in protecting the community, her enthusiasm and excitement to perform her duty, and her cheeky grin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
