Handler – Senior Constable Dan Fysh

It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the sudden passing of Police Dog (PD) Thor. On Friday January 27, PD Thor was discovered by his handler Senior Constable Dan Fysh suffering from an unexpected medical condition in the back yard at home. PD Thor was rushed to the vet, but sadly he did not survive the emergency surgery. PD Thor has been the trusted partner ‘against crime’ for Senior Constable Fysh since 2017. A six-year relationship that cannot be overstated, Senior Constable Fysh and PD Thor were an inseparable pair both at home and work.PD Thor was the second police dog for Senior Constable Fysh following the retirement of PD Hahm in 2017.Our hearts go out to the Fysh family, still grieving the loss of retired PD Hahm who passed away only three months ago. The Fysh family has again been devastated with the sudden loss of PD Thor.PD Thor lived for working alongside Senior Constable Fysh and impressively located more than 300 offenders during his six years serving the Far North community.Senior Constable Fysh shared just one of the many stories of working with PD Thor.“Several years ago PD Thor and I tracked an offender wanted for a break and enter and assault of a police officer, “ Senior Constable Fysh said.“We tracked to a deep creek in Edmonton and for the life of me I couldn’t see anything, but Thor knew there was something there. Thor jumped into the creek and swam to the fully submerged offender.“Despite the offender trying to drown Thor, he managed to hang on and the offender was taken into custody by waiting officers. Without PD Thor on that job, it is likely that we (police) would never have found the offender that night.”Senior Constable Fysh said PD Thor was the complete package.“He had the perfect temperament; he was a wonderful family dog and a brilliant working dog. He knew his job and was without a doubt my best mate.” Fellow Dog Squad members have described PD Thor as a ‘cracking dog who was an amazing tracker and one of the best natured dogs they have ever come across’.Nothing short of an impressive police dog, PD Thor was also a beloved member of the Fysh family. Our thoughts are with Senior Constable Fysh and his family at this very sad time.We sincerely thank PD Thor for his service to the Far North community.Rest in peace buddy, PD Hahm is waiting and ready to get up to mischief with you again.
