Charlestown says goodbye to police K-9
A southern Indianapolis city already mourning the loss of a police officer is now saying goodbye to one of their police dogs. The Charlestown City Police Department posted Tuesday that retired K-9 Maja passed away Monday at the age of 12. “Rest In Peace Maja, thanks for fighting crime with us; and especially for all the drugs you helped get off the streets of Southern Indiana,” the department wrote. Charlestown Police Ofc. Ben Bertram died last month when he crashed into a tree during a vehicle pursuit of a suspect. Benjamin Eads of Freedom, Indiana is facing charges in Bertram’s death. Maja’s partner, Maj. Jason Broady shared a message for the K-9 in the department’s Facebook post. “Go play with Ben until I get there. he’ll take good care of you old girl,” Broady said.
