Join us in honoring the life and fantastic service of K9 Longo. DOB: 12/14/2005 EOW: 03/20/2021 K9 Longo gave seven years of loyal service to Bernalillo County, NM.
During her career, K9 Longo located and detected 5.5 Kilos Fentanyl, 385 kilos of Cocaine, 84 kilos of Heroin, 880 lbs Marijuana, 78 kilos Meth and $860,550 in US currency. K9 Longo was born in the Netherlands and purchased by the Department of Justice for DEA Task Force Officer and BCSO Deputy Justin Dunlap in September of 2006. When Deputy Dunlap was promoted to Sergeant, Deputy Tim Miller received the position as Task Force Officer K9 handler in February of 2008 and took possession of K9 Longo, a narcotic detection K9. During K9 Longo’s time with the DEA, she located 5.5 kilo’s of Fentanyl on a Greyhound bus, one of the first such seizures. Deputy Miller and K9 Longo were assigned to DEA for two years and, in March of 2010, were reassigned to the Region Task Force for BCSO. K9 Longo and Deputy Miller assisted Detectives with Narcotics searches as well as investigations and case management. K9 Longo and Deputy Miller continued police work in multiple areas throughout the years and heavily worked the Highways I-40 and I-25, bus station, and airport. K9 Longo eventually left the K9 unit when she was retired to Deputy Miller in May of 2013 when she hung up her working leash to be a dog and enjoy relaxing and playing. In 2010 Longo competed at Kirtland Air Force Base in competition with several Police agencies and Air Force K9 units and took 1st place for Narcotic detection. She was a K9 that fellow Deputies loved; she participated in many school demonstrations for children and assisted many other agencies for narcotics detection. “I was honored to be her partner and spend almost 13 years with a hard-working, dedicated K9 who was happy and playful. Deceased 03/20/2021 at 15 years 3 months 6 days. Rest in peace, my best friend.”- Retired Deputy Tim Miller.
