K9 Falcone – Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, New York

Died – 7/20/17
Handler – Sgt Edward O’Flaherty

It is with deep regret that I announce the sudden passing of canine “Falcone’, who was the devoted and loyal partner of Sergeant Edward O’Flaherty of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department. “Falcone” experienced a serious, unpredictable medical emergency (Mesenteric-torsion/Bloat). “Falcone” was named is in honor of Detective John Falcone, a highly decorated member of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on February 18, 2011 at the Metro North Train Station in Poughkeepsie, New York. “Falcone” and Sergeant O’Flaherty were assigned to the MTA Police Department Special Operations Division where they protected the citizens of the Metropolitan NYC Area by deterring acts of terrorism and protected countless dignitaries including two sitting United States Presidents. They successfully prevented and solved numerous crimes throughout their career. Just last month Sergeant O’Flaherty and “Falcone” were one of the top finalists in the USPCA Patrol Certifications. “Falcone” was certified by the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in Patrol and Explosives Detection. In addition, the team graduated from the MTA PD Canine Training Center “Mass Transit Tactical Canine Program”. “Falcone”, loyal trusted partner and friend will be especially missed by all the members of the “O’Flaherty” family, especially the O’Flaherty children whom he lived to protect and play with. Sergeant O’Flaherty joined the CPWDA on 8/9/10 with his first K9 Duke and joined with K9 Falcone on 2/19/13 and were members until his passing.
