Retired Stamford police dog dies at age 13
A retired police dog who conducted numerous narcotics searches in his eight years of service died Friday, according to the Stamford Police Department. Cronin, 13, served with the Stamford Police Department from 2011 to 2019 with his handler Sgt. Richard Phelan. The black Labrador retriever was instrumental in developing the Stamford Police Department’s K9 Unit. During his tenure, Cronin was trained strictly in narcotics and helped in “countless narcotics searches,” the police department said. “He had some nose on him,” Phelan said. The man and his best friend enjoyed retirement together. Phelan said Cronin liked playing in the backyard, going on walks and “doing normal dog stuff instead of drug searches.” “He was a great dog,” Phelan added.
