Died – 10/26/17
Handler – Officer Jim Osorio

It is with deep regret I must announce the death of K9 Coral. On October 26, 2017, Coral, a 10-year-old German Shepherd K-9 was lost to complications from a medical condition she had fought for over 4 months. Coral was a dual-purpose K-9 who joined her handler and partner Jim Osorio at the National Dangerous Animal Task Force (NDATF) and Canine Encounters Law Enforcement Training, Texas in 2009. She was used for search and rescue, tracking, canine encounters training for animal control and law enforcement officers, her last training class was held at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Noblesville, Indiana on October 5-6, 2017. During her service with the NDATF Coral assisted with several search and rescue operations as well as assisting Jim Osorio with training over 30,000 law enforcement officers with canine encounter training. Coral and Jim had also been recognized by several law enforcement agencies and animal welfare groups for their outstanding training in canine encounter training for law enforcement officers. In 2015 Coral and Jim were appointed to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement – Canine Encounter Training Committee to design a training program for all State of Texas Peace Officers to attend mandatory canine encounter training. Coral also presented a recognition award by Mayor Richard A. Harman of the City of Woodville, Ohio for their canine encounter training. Coral and Jim traveled all over the United States providing professional canine encounter training. Coral’s handler Jim Osorio stated, “Coral was not only a loyal partner and educator, she was also able to train many types of animal control and law enforcement officers in canine encounters while remaining a trusted and loved member of my family. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten.” Memorial donations may be made to the NDATF – K9 Coral Memorial Fund, 1530 P B LN, Suite J3590, Wichita Falls, TX 76302. Online condolences may be offered to Jim Osorio, K9 handler for K9 Coral at jim.osorio@ndatf.us.
