Retired Zanesville K-9 officer Bevrick dies at age 9 after lymphoma battle
Retired Zanesville Police Department K-9 officer Bevrick has died. He was 9 years old.Bevrick, a Belgian Malinois, died on Saturday. He was being treated for lymphoma by Med Vet Columbus and Brandywine Pet Hospital.Bevrick’s first shift with the department was a rainy night in the spring of 2015. He was 2 at the time, and working with his handler, patrol officer Travis Groves. Bevrick had a long career with the ZPD serving as a dual-purpose dog, trained to do narcotics sniffing, searches and tracking and apprehending, among other duties. He was trained at Pine Grove Kennel in Meigs County. The department’s K-9 unit started in 2005, with two dogs. A third dog was funded by a $10,000 donation by Nestle Purina in 2018. The unit has been funded by community donations since its inception. The donations pay for equipment and to equip police cruisers to be suitable for the K-9 officers.”The Zanesville Police Department wishes to thank everyone who contributed money and other gifts to Bevrick in the past couple of weeks while he underwent his medical procedures,” said Chief Tony Coury.
