Army dog dies in grenade hit, militants slit man’s throat

In yet another such incident in the restive Kashmir Valley, a 38-year old man has been murdered by slitting his throat by unidentified assailants. The incident has taken place in Hajin area of northern district of Bandipore where, at least, half a dozen persons were earlier murdered after they were kidnapped by gunmen from their respective houses during past few weeks. The police had blamed the gory incidents on Lashkat-e-Tayyaba (LeT). The police identified the person murdered in Hajin as Muhammad Yaqoob Wagay, a butcher by profession. He was found murdered outside his house in Gund Prang village of Hajin early Friday. The police also said that preliminary investigations revealed that Wagay had been kidnapped at gunpoint by three to four men who barged into his house on Thursday night. Meanwhile, an Army sniffer dog was killed when militants tossed a hand grenade at an Army camp in southern Kulgam district on Friday afternoon. The Army and the police said that the militants targeted the camp of Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles in Kulgam’s Nihama village. “A sniffer dog positioned at the entrance to the camp was killed after being hit by splinters,” they said.
