PRAYER FOR ANIMALS
God Our Heavenly Father, You created the world to serve humanity's needs and to lead them to You. By our own fault we have lost the beautiful relationship which we once had with all your creation. Help us to see that by restoring our relationship with You we will also restore it with all Your creation. Give us the grace to see all animals as gifts from You and to treat them with respect for they are Your creation. We pray for all animals who are suffering as a result of our neglect. May the order You originally established be once again restored to the whole world through the intercession of the Glorious Virgin Mary, the prayers of St. Francis and the merits of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ Who lives and reigns with You now and forever. Amen.
-- Saint Francis of Assisi

ALL CREATURES, GREAT & SMALL
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful;
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

IF EVER YOU NEED ME
If ever you need me,
I'll be right here,
To chase away the sadness,
And wipe away a tear.
If ever you need me,
I'll be two steps behind,
To follow in your footsteps,
And hear what's on your mind.
If ever you need me,
You'll never have to fear,
That your presence isn't important,
And your love isn't dear.
If ever you need me,
I'll always be around,
to bring back the laughter,
Where deep in your heart it's found.
You'll never have to worry,
For I'll always be here,
To chase away the sadness,
And wipe away a tear.
I AM HERE FOR YOU!

A BIRTHDAY POEM FROM THE DOG
You feed me when I'm hungry,
You keep water in my dish,
You let me sleep on anything,
Or in any place I wish.
You sometimes let me lick your hands,
Or even lick your face,
Despite the fact I've licked myself,
In every private place.
You taught me how to come when called,
You taught me how to sit,
You always let me go outside,
So I can take a .... stroll.
I've been with you through oh, so much,
Through laughter and through tears,
I hope you live to be a hundred...
(that's 700 in doggy years.)
Happy Birthday!

THE BOTTOM HALF
I am the bottom half of mounted patrol team,
The love from my partner, has fulfilled my dream.
I was born to run wild, leave the danger that's near,
But the strength on my back, says I've nothing to fear.
I feel your hands and your legs, they help as you guide,
It's your strength that sustains me,
when I could run and hide.
Your spurs sometimes tickle, you use them to nudge,
Sometimes I sure need them, because I won't budge.
The children, they see us, they squeal with delight,
An Officer on horseback, what a beautiful sight!
When I am on duty, I'm not allowed to eat,
But just look at that grass, it's just under my feet.
No one can describe it, this partnership and team,
We'll work as one forever, I'll feel you in my dreams.
The ride for now is over, the tack is recounted,
I'll rest till that time, we again will work mounted.

 Losing A Good Friend
Work seemed long today
The joy just wasn’t there
 but it's over now

Home at last
 in through the front door

A strange quiet
 uneasy I begin to feel

What is it
as I slip into the shell of my home

My eyes catch the object of my fear
An empty bed in the corner
with a bone near

She’s gone;
I’ve lost my best friend

By Bruce Bertram

The Power of the Dog by Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie..
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the 14 years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find..it's your own affair..
But..you've given your heart for a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still');
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone..wherever it goes..for good
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart for the dog to tear.
We've sorrow enough in the natural way
When it comes to burying Christian clay,
Our loves are not given, but only lent
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long..
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

.
GONE TOO SOON
If tears could build a stairway
And memories a lane
I’d walk up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
But since I have to stay behind
Until God calls me too
Donut be afraid my little girl
That he's called for only you.
You know it's hard you're not around
Because you're in Heaven smiling down
Watching me as I pray for you
Every day I pray for you.
Still at night I lie awake
And ponder our bond that broke
And wish you were here to dry my tears
And rid me of my fears.
Once I finally fall asleep
With your blanket clenched to me
I know that even though you're gone
I feel were still a team.
Until the day we meet again
In my heart is where I keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
The strength I need to believe.
And when my eyes no longer see
Is when we'll cuddle again
Once I enter Heaven's gates
The gates you'll open for me.
Until that day, You angel of mine
I await beneath your wings
Until it becomes my time.

THE CATS PRAYER
Although I am too proud to beg,
and may appear to be a very independent creature,
I ask for your loving care and attention.
I rely on you for my well being
much more than you may realize.
This I promise you, my benefactor,
that I will not be a burden on you nor
will I demand more of you than you care to give.
I will be a quiet peaceful island of serenity
for you to gaze upon;
a soft soothing body to caress,
and I shall purr with pleasure to rest your weary years.
Since I am a gourmet who appreciates
different taste sensations,
I pray you will give me a variety of nutritious
foods and fresh water daily.
You know dear friend, how I love to go.
Allow me, I pray, a warm sheltered
place where I can rest peacefully and feel secure.
If I am wounded in battle or suffering from disease,
please tend me gently,
and see that I am treated by loving and competent hands.
Please protect me from the inhuman humans
who would hurt and torture me for
their own amusement.
I am accustomed to your gentle touch and am not
always suspicious nor swift enough to avoid
such malicious acts.
In my later years when my senses fail me
and my infirmities become to great to bear,
allow me the comfort and dignity
that I desire for my closing days
and help me gently in my pain or passing.
Hear this prayer, my dear friend, my fate depends on you.

A SHEPHERD'S PRAYER
So do not grieve for me,
my friend As I am with my kind.
My collar is a rainbow's hue
My leash is a shooting star
My boundaries are the milky way
Where I sparkle from afar.
There are no pens or kennels here
For I am not confined
But free to roam God's heavens
Among my shepherd kind.
I nap the day on a snowy cloud
And gentle breezes are rocking me
I dream the dreams of earthing
And how it used to be.
The trees are full of liver treats
And tennis balls abound
And milk bones line the walking ways
Just waiting to be found.
There even is a ring set up
The grass all lush and green
And everyone who gaits around
Becomes the "Best Of Breed".
For we're all winners in this place
We have no faults you see
And God passes out the ribbons
To each one--even me.
I drink from waters laced with gold
My world a beauty to behold
And wise old dogs do form my pride
To amble at my very side.
At night I sleep in an angel's arms
Her wings protecting me
And moonbeams dance about us
As stardust falls on thee.
So when your life on earth is spent
And you reach heaven's gate
Have no fear of loneliness
For here, you know I wait.

DEAREST FRIEND
I lost my dearest friend today,
No finer could be found.
My love for you is utmost true,
It has no endless bound.
So hard to say,
"Good bye" to you,
Forever, trusting friend,
I'll keep you in my memories,
I promise till the end.

WHY OWN A DOG?
There's a danger you know, You can't own just one,
 for the craving will grow.
 There's no doubt they're addictive,
wherein lies the danger.
While living with lots you'll grow poorer and stranger.
One dog is no trouble, and two are so funny.
The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.
The fifth one delightful, the sixth one's a breeze,
You find you can live with a houseful with ease.
So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?
They're really quite easy but oh, Lord the hair!
With dogs on the sofa and dogs on the bed,
And crates in the kitchen, it's no bother you've said.
They're really no trouble, their manners are great.
What's just one more dog and just one more crate?
The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,
The floor is all footprints, the furniture dusty.
The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?
Who minds a few nose prints and a little more hair?
So let's keep a puppy, you can always find room,
And a little more time  for the dust cloth and broom.
There's hardly a limit to the dogs you can add,
The thought of a cutback sure makes you sad.
Each one is so special, so useful, so funny.
The vet, the food bill grows larger, you owe money.
Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,
Except other dog folks, who all live the same way.
Your lawn has now died, and your shrubs are dead too,
But your weekends are busy, you're off with your crew.
There's dog food and vitamins, training and shots.
And entries and travel and motels which cost lots.
Is it worth it, you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then your favorite dog comes and climbs in your lap.
His look says you're special and you know that you will
Keep all of the critters in spite of the bill.
Some just for showing and some just to breed.
And some just for loving, they all fill a need.
But winter's a hassle, the dogs hate it too.
But they must have their walks
though they're numb and you're blue.
Late evening is awful, you scream and you shout
At the dogs on the sofa who refuse to go out.
 The dogs and the dog shows, the travel, the thrills;
The work and the worry, the pressure, the bills.
The whole thing seems worth it, the dogs are your life.
They're charming and funny and off set the strife.
Your lifestyle has changed. Things won't be the same.
Yes, those dogs are addictive and so is the dog game!
